Hotel Bali Hai Huahine

The sleeper for the traveler seeking the real South Seas. Pronounced "Who-a-henay," this wonderful island is just 30 minutes from Papeete and is served daily by Air Tahiti on route to Bora Bora.

The word is getting around on this travel bargain for those looking for a beautiful, unspoiled island. Recent travel periodicals describe it as "How Tahiti was 50 years ago."

The Bali Hai company is extremely fortunate to have the Hotel Bali Hai Huahine on what is considered the best location on the island. The setting is magic:

Beachfront bungalows are nestled amongst the trees along the white sand beach, guests step from their bungalows and fall into the lagoon for snorkeling before breakfast. Behind the beachfront bungalows are the popular lakeside bungalows with beautiful verandahs. These accommodations are set on the edge of man-made lakes and canals, which run into the sea. The waterlilies and fish that flourish in the lakes delight guests. Well-kept gardens of Tahitian plants and flowers cover the hotel grounds.

All meals are served on the terrace on the beach with the view of Raiatea, Tahaa, and Bora Bora. Breakfast is buffet style and feature delicious Bali Hai croissants, fruits, good coffee, and whatever else you wish.

Surfers visit Huahine from all over the world and you may find yourself watching them from your breakfast table for hours. Luncheons range from light salads to hamburgers, to a complete meal. At dinner, seafoods are the specialty. The fishermen of Huahine provide fresh Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Swordfish, and Wahoo for the Bali Hai kitchen. Quality meats are flown in from New Zealand.

Take a stroll back to the times described by Somerset Maugham to the little town of Fare. Just 10 minutes down the beach, the inter island boats dock in Fare with their freight for the islands of Tahiti. Recently, new passenger boats have begun to serve the island as well.

Beware: The Hotel Bali Hai Huahine is not fancy and not expensive. There are no telephones or televisions in the bungalows. If you receive a call, someone will bring you a portable phone. You may go to the front desk to call out or send and receive faxes. It is simply a small, quiet, romantic place.

All of the staff and its manager, Mr. K., are Polynesian. They are delighted to tell you all about their island.

Some recent guests of Bali Hai Huahine have remarked:

"This is what I expected Tahiti to be like. There are gardens in the bathroom, when you shower you are spraying tropical plants. My wife loved it."

"We spent two nights for a try. The people and the location are wonderful. We'll be back."

"I think it may be the most beautiful place on the planet."
